A remarkable historical document and an illustrious guestbook by Rudi Wicha (Vienna 1924 – 1990, brother-in-law of Kurt Waldheim), a well-known author and journalist specializing in agriculture, nutrition, and ecology. The book contains numerous artistic drawings and handwritten entries from 1947 to the late 1950s, with many references to Vienna and its surroundings. A final entry dates back to 1989, shortly before his death. Rudolf Wicha, known from the Agricultural Promotion Service and television, was highly creative and expressed his artistic side in this guestbook, which is filled with impressive drawings, texts, and countless signatures, documenting numerous gatherings with friends, acquaintances, and guests. This handwritten document originated in the Wicha household during the post-war period (1947 to the late 1950s). The entries begin with a note from his parents: “Tages Arbeit – Abend Gäste - Saure Wochen - Frohe Feste” (for his 24th birthday). Other highlights include an evening in honor of the Swiss Student Delegation Poly Zürich 1947, Mikadie 1948, a reunion of former students of the Christian Brothers’ School 1948, an excursion to Guntramsdorf, a scenic tour of Leopoldsberg, the Pannonenball 1949, the Göttlesbrunn Fair, “Wiener Luft,” a visit from Copenhagen, “Eine kleine Nachtmusik,” “Anatomisches Traktament,” “Die böse 7,” New Year’s Eve and birthday celebrations, carnival in Vienna, gatherings of the “green guild” comrades, BOKU student reunions, “Die Zerrissenen,” and much more. The book has an embossed leather cover with maritime motifs (sails, anchors, crests, etc.), brass-plated corners, and a decorated back cover with a beautiful patina. It is in good condition, filled with countless entries, though it has a slight cellar scent. In total, there are more than 150 signed and inscribed pages, including contributions from prominent figures in politics, literature, film, and television. Dimensions: 26 x 31 cm, with age-appropriate signs of use.
