An exceptional and antique reliquary cross (cross relic - monastery work - folk art) gilded; second half of the 19th century. Century; this beautiful crucifix holds a precious secret; on the front a raised relief with Jesus on the cross with a beautiful detailed elaboration; the cross is closed with a small original screw; On the back beautiful relief work with the instrument of suffering: Vinegar sponge, lance, 3 nails, the crown of thorns, 3 dice and Mary in the centre; Inside are the relics of 7 saints, each framed on velvety red cloth, covered with linen and covered with an inscribed cedula; the scroll-shaped borders are made of a delicate gold alloy at the edge; In the centre of the arms of the cross there is an enamel medallion with the image of grace of Altöttting (Black Madonna); on the other inner side there is also a red fabric integrated where a fabric relic is attached; the relic is inscribed AGNUS DIE (Lamb of God); in the centre of the arms of the cross there is an enamel medallion with the image of grace Altöttting; the saints are: S.FAUSTINI M. "Faustinus" (Above), brother of Rufus and Simplicius, martyr and patron saint of Fulda; Probably Saint CLARA OF ASSISI, Clara devoted her whole life to following Christ in a radical poverty; CLEMENS (Clemens Romanus), Apostolic Father and Bishop of Rome, successor of the Apostle Peter and author of the two Epistles of Clement, which was also the reason for their inclusion in the ranks of the Apostolic Fathers; THEODOR (Theodore Tiro), common soldier of Emperor Maximianus and patron saint of soldiers; after his imprisonment for his Christian faith he went to the temple of Cybele and burned it; afterwards he was arrested again and in the dungeon Jesus Christ appeared to him, in the end he was tortured and executed; S. URBAN (Urban I. ), St. Urban was Bishop of Rome; according to tradition, St. Urban decreed that the chalice at the Lord's Supper must be made of gold and silver; REPERATA (the Restored), is an early Christian martyr who suffered martyrdom at the age of 12 because she refused to sacrifice herself to the Roman gods; as punishment, she was doused with molten lead, her breasts cut off, burned and beheaded; The 7th saint could not be deciphered and is still alive today. Saint could not be deciphered and is therefore UNKNOWN, one can only assume the letters l.i.o.s. s.i.; the reliquary cross is original and complete and can be worn on the rosary or on a chain around the neck; traces according to age and use; measurements: approx. 2.5 x 6 cm - weight: approx. 13.75 g
