Old cross reliquary (reliquary cross - monastic work - folk art) silver-plated; Italy - end of the 19th century; silver-plated crucifix with a precious secret; inside the cross are the relics of 3 saints, each lovingly hand-bound on velvety red fabric, covered with linen and inscribed; the saints are: "CLEMENTIA" - The daughter of Count Adolph of Hohenberg, she vowed virginity and joined the consecrated convent of women "Irmina of Oeren" of the Benedictine nuns in Trier, there she died in the call of sanctity; "AGNES OF ROM" - also a virgin martyr, in order not to have to marry Agnes claimed she was betrothed to Jesus Christ, Agnes was tried and executed; the third saint could not be deciphered on the cedula, one can read the letters "AMATI" (= beloved), and on the second part only the two letters MA; the scroll-shaped borders are probably made of a delicate gold alloy; on the front the crucifix shows a raised relief with Jesus on the cross on black ebony - beautiful detailed workg; the cross is closed with a small screw (the screw is not original); the reliquary cross can be worn on a rosary or on a chain around the neck; traces according to age and use; measurements: approx. 4.6 x 2.3 cm - Weight: approx. 10.90 g
