Bohemian Zwischengoldbecher (intermediate gold glass) from the Historicism period in Baroque style (1890 – 1915) - with a hand-painted hunting scene; likely created in Bohemia, glass in Baroque style from the late 19th to early 20th century; colorless glass with a painted base, faceted exterior (16-faceted cut), with a conical shape; gold-painted and colored Zwischengold decoration, featuring a continuous hunting scene; the Zwischengoldbecher has a mastic joint on the rim and is among the rare late works; between the glass layers is reverse glass painting depicting a Baroque hunting scene with a grand estate (castle, palace) in the background; a hunter is shown with a horse and hunting horn, and the other two scenes depict the hunter shooting and collecting trophies; the scene is bordered at the top and bottom by acanthus leaf friezes; the base features gold-painted floral ornaments; during the time when Historicism was competing against the emerging Art Nouveau, antique Baroque glasses were handcrafted anew in Bohemia and Silesia at the turn of the 19th to 20th century, based on museum originals – this glass is one of those; heavy abrasion on the base (wear), some small chips; age-appropriate signs of use (see photos); dimensions: 8.5 cm high.
