Rare and owner-signed Niello/Tula Nachtigall silver pocket watch with WW2 history; the pocket watch is in good condition; 1910 - 1920; manual winding; white enamel dial; Roman and Arabic numerals; small seconds; richly decorated; savonette case, multiple hallmarks: Case no. 3102 54 - "NACHTIGALL" stamp - Initials stamp "NIEL HF" - Signed with handwriting "Franz Hrouda" - Inner lid hallmarked with: Initials "HF" - 0. 800 silver - German Reich silver stamp "Halbmond & Krone" - Auerhahn stamp = Swiss silver stamp (0.800) - also stamped at the crown (indistinct) - Remontoir ancre ligne droite 15 rubis; the niello is also stamped: and made by the company „Huguenin Depose“; on the back empty initial field in the shape of a coat of arms; THE HISTORY: the pocket watch was made by the tailor's assistant Franz Hrouda (signed inside and compared with public documents - see photos), Mr. Hrouda was district leader of the KPÖ in Vienna in the 1940s and was arrested on 15. January 1940 he was arrested by the Secret State Police "Gestapo" for "preparation to high treason"; on 28th August 1941 he was sentenced in the Higher Regional Court of Vienna (4 years in prison); he survived the sentence and was released from prison on 30th April 1945; the case can be opened and closed without any problems; the watch starts - it is not cleaned or adjusted; the protective glass is missing and must be replaced; traces of use corresponding to the age; dimensions of the case: diameter approx. 5 cm - total weight: 80,10 g; Our recommendation: Like every pocket watch of this age, this watch needs to be overhauled, cleaned and serviced by a watchmaker for daily use.
