Products description

Collection of snuff bottles (6 pieces - tobacco glass bottles); some rare and elaborately crafted variants; Southern Germany – Austria, second half of the 20th century (1960s–1990s). These magnificent collector’s bottles are also known as Schmalzlerglasl, Brasilflaschl, Prisenflasche, Bixl, or Tabakbüchsl. The bottles were produced using various glass art techniques, with some being intricately hand-painted. Three bottles with stoppers, one moss-green Glasbixl – hand-painted on the front (barn swallow) and signed “HB 91” (Hans Breu, from the Christallerie Bavaria / Glashütte in Ludwigsthal); labeled “Rauchschwalbe Hirundo rustica” on the back, one small bottle from Regenhütte (Made in West Germany), one snuff bottle from JOSKA Waldglas Bodenmais (lead crystal, mouth-blown and hand-cut), engraved on crystal glass (probably Bohemian). All bottles are in good condition with age-related wear. Dimensions: largest bottle approx. 8 x 12.8 x 3 cm, smallest bottle approx. 6.5 x 9.3 x 2.5 cm. Snuff bottles have existed since the 17th century and are still crafted today by artists and master glassmakers in a variety of designs for collectors and tobacco enjoyment.
