Products description

Antique and very rare spittoon bottle (pocket bottle) by Dr. Dettweiler, nicknamed "Blauer Heinrich" (Blue Heinrich). This Dettweiler’s No. 2 model was produced around 1904 and was used as a portable bottle for coughing individuals. This invention was intended to limit the spread of tuberculosis via coughing and spitting—or so it was said. This is an early model of a spittoon bottle from 1904, with the embossed inscription "Dr. Dettweiler" on the glass. The bottle was likely manufactured by Glashütte Poncet. It is egg-shaped and made of cobalt blue glass. On the upper side, it has a hinged lid, allowing it to be opened or closed with one hand, and inside, a funnel that collected sputum. On the lower side, there is a silver screw cap for opening and cleaning the bottle easily. The hinged lid is engraved with the text: "Geheimrath Dr. Dettweiler’s Taschenflasche für Hustende" (Privy Councillor Dr. Dettweiler’s Pocket Bottle for Coughers). The metal frame on the glass lid has two small dents and shows wear from use. A fantastic and rare object for collectors of curious glass artifacts. Age-related signs of use are present. Dimensions: approx. 5,5 x 10,5 x 4 cm
