Antique theodolite by R. & A. Rost in original wooden case; Austria around 1930; the measuring instrument originates from Vienna and was manufactured in the 1930s by the company Rudolf and August Rost; several labels in the original wooden case with the manufacturer's name (RUDOLF & AUGUST ROST) and device data; the original key is present, and the lock is in good condition; one wooden part is missing to fix the instrument in the case; Rudolf Rost (1860–1933) was born in Vienna and received training in mathematics and mechanics. In 1880, he founded the company Rudolf & August Rost with his brother August, specializing in measuring instruments such as theodolites and leveling instruments. Thanks to their quality, the company quickly gained recognition and won several awards at the 1900 World Exhibition in Paris.
