Products description

Very rare botanical historical document on botany and plant science by *Gotthold Hahn* (1841–1913): a moss and lichen herbarium. This original collection of preserved and dried mosses and lichens (cryptogams) features handwritten annotations accompanying the pressed specimens, created for scientific purposes. Hahn's personal work includes 16 plates with 65 specimens; two plates are missing the transparent covers. The scientific collection dates back to approximately 1880. Gotthold Hahn dedicated his life to studying vascular plants, mosses, fungi, and lichens. His comprehensive research into Germany's flora and specialization in cryptogams and fungi established him as a prominent 19th-century scientist. Hahn authored numerous articles in newspapers and journals and compiled one of the most significant herbarium collections of his time. This exceptional piece reflects his botanical expertise and includes some of his most renowned works: **“Kleine Pilzkunde” (1887)**, **“Die Lebermoose Deutschlands” (1894)**, and his herbarium series, including *Musci frondosi*, *Musci hepatici*, and *Lichen and Vascular Cryptogam Herbaria*. The plates show some foxing, and the mosses and lichens are in good condition given their age. The work exhibits age-appropriate signs of use. Dimensions of the cardboard sheets: approx. 23.7 x 28 cm; dimensions of the folder: approx. 26 x 31 cm. A remarkable document for botanists, plant researchers, and herbarium collectors.
