Old handmade and rare Chinese children's bonnet (headdress) of the DONG culture (侗族; lagx Gaeml; Gaeml or T'ung); mid-20th cent. Century; China - near Guizhou; well-preserved ceremonial hat for Dong girls, with embroidered appliqués, finely wrapped thread patterns; gold threads, old sequins; endless knot bands of silk and padded lining of cotton; on the front three mounted metal figures of the immortals, on the back a crossed decorative band, in front a round metal plate with relief image; many old Dong traditions are still represented in the villages today (world cultural heritage); the Dong people are said to have a very close relationship to nature and the spirit world (dwarf spirits and dragons) and are known for their water buffalo fights, where the losing buffalo is slaughtered for the festival and ceremony; measures from front to back: ca. 34 cm; width approx. 24 cm; traces of use corresponding to the age (see photos).
